Pregnancy for me wasn't smooth.
My age group for babies being diagnosed with Down Syndrome is considered low. Decided to take NT scan with blood test in my 13th week . NT scan result appeared to be normal, her nose shape can be clearly seen. But my blood test turned out to be bad. I fell under the high risk group, in 250 babies, 1 baby might be diagnosed with Down Syndrome.
WHHHYYYYY?
I was in office when the hospital called, I broke down and summoned my hubby up for a talk. The hospital gave me two options, chance it or go for CVS.
都是死路 )):
CVS involves inserting a needle through the abdomen to the placenta to retrieve fluid. The worst thing is the chances of miscarriage is 1 in 300! 手心手背都是肉! Arranged a impromptu visit to my gynae. He said that he don't recommend CVS, I have nth to worry about in the first place. It could the early pregnancy that causes that hCg reading to be abnormal. Subsequently he booked another blood test to be done in my early second trimester. So I did the test and waited for the results for days.
Waited and waited. Waited and waited. The day came with my gynae calling me personally. He himself said that he was not confident, and worried that it might not be just Down Syndrome that I have to deal with, maybe Edward Symptoms or something even more severe. 晴天霹雳! I can't continue talking, the tears kept flowing down and started to blame myself, the hubby helped me to continue the phone call. Conclusion was that another further test should be done to confirm if the baby is keep-able. Its called amniocentesis, also involves inserting a small needle going through the abdomen to the placenta to get the amino fluid. By right amniocentesis is safer as compared to CVS, gynae affirmed that too. Plus, I sought second opinion from my other gynae. After discussing with my hubby and both families, we decided to go for the test! *cries*
Went for counselling before the procedure, the counsellor assured that I will be under ultrasound at all time during the process and I asked will the water bag leak cos got hole liao, heng she say won't, else I run home. Waited super long for my turn for amniocentesis. 象热锅上的蚂蚁啦. Finally my turn, I scared max. The doctor in-charge used the ultra sound to detect the baby then he drew a cross on my belly (ma chiam want throw dart). Guess what, HE OFF THE ULTRASOUND SCREEN AND PIERCING MY BELLY LIKE BURSTING A BALLOON! *Faints* The next moment I felt pressure :( The assistant continued the rest of the process. I saw yellowish amino fluid being pulled into the syringe! If there's a heart beat monitor, I think my reading can beat those running 42km! Scare the shit out of me!
Waiting time is always the most painful time! This time round no phone call from the hospital! Yay! *throw confetti* We got the result from the doctor when we next visited him! Emme is healthy! Can you imagine how happy we were! I was niam niam chan chan-ing while waiting for doctor lo, so bloody worried about the result. Poor hubby! The doctor was evil, he suddenly kay siao on his front phone camera and took our n joyous face. Oh well, it turned out to be shocked face when we detected the camera. Haha.
Ohoh! Amniocentesis takes the cell from baby's output for lab test. Thus its 99% accurate. The best thing is it can identify the baby's gender! We got to know baby's gender when baby bump is slightly past 4 months :)
I will continue my delivery process in the next post!
